it seems to be general knowledge that a successful artist has a signature style. I have seen others with such a thing...master of one type of media and always the same technique/look/feel...recognizable as theirs. this is supposed to generate followers, fans of your style. they expect more of the same. I feel like that is true in artists that I follow. a person without a style is often seen as a beginner. but sometimes an artists paintings and colors are so much alike, they are boring...like the same painting over and over.
yet... when one delves into research of some famous artists, I see that some had many interests....Dali, Michelangelo, da Vinci …. sculpture, architecture, painting, inventing, photography, film, writing.... they did lot of things. mayve they only became wildly famous at one, but they did not limit themselves.
so...opinions? how important is style?
